On 15 July 2010, an amendment was made to the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (the EPBC Act). This change means recreational fishing of longfin and shortfin mako and porbeagle sharks can now occur in Commonwealth waters.
This fact sheet summarises how the legislative changes affect recreational and commercial fishers, including charter boat operators and game fishers.
