About the application
The Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts has received an application for a permit to interfere with a cetacean under Part 13, section 237 of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act).
The application is for close approach (10 meters) and interference (biopsy samples collection) with whale species in Australian waters. The applicant wishes to collect biopsy samples for scientific research.
A permit is sought for the period commencing from the date of approval to 1 November 2009.
In accordance with the provisions of section 237(3b) of the EPBC Act, you were invited to comment on this proposal before COB Tuesday 25 September 2007.
