About the permit application form

The purpose of this form is to enable the assessment of the need for, and potential environmental impacts of disposing sewage sludge at sea, where the disposal falls outside the regulations contained in Annex IV of MARPOL 73/78 as implemented in Commonwealth waters by the Commonwealth Protection of the Sea (Prevention of Pollution from Ships) Act 1983. Generally, sewage that forms part of normal operational discharges from ships and sewage outfalls do not require a sea dumping permit. On the basis of this assessment the Minister may grant, or refuse to grant a permit for the disposal under Section 19 of the Environment Protection (Sea Dumping) Act 1981 (the Sea Dumping Act).
