Executive summary

The Department of Fisheries Western Australia (DFWA) has submitted a document for assessment under Parts 13 and 13A of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act). The draft document Application to Department of the Environment and Heritage for the Shark Bay Prawn Fishery (the submission) was received by Department of the Environment and Heritage (EA) in April 2002 after a period of discussion between DFWA and EA, during which preliminary drafts were refined. The submission was released for a thirty-day public comment period that expired on 31 May 2002. Five public comments were received and DFWA provided a response to the issues raised. No changes were made to the submission as a result of public comment.

The submission reports on the Western Australia (WA) Shark Bay Prawn (SBP) Fishery against the Commonwealth Guidelines for the Ecologically Sustainable Management of Fisheries. The EA assessment considers the submission and associated documents, public comments and WADF's response to the comments.
