Agency application for environmental assessment under the EPBC Act
PQ Aquatics, 2012
Agency application on ecologically sustainability
The current export approval for the PQ Aquatics operation is valid until 20 December 2012 and the operation is now due for assessment for ongoing export accreditation. The Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities received an application, 'Application for an approved Wildlife trade operation', from PQ Aquatics in September 2012. The application has been prepared to address the Australian Government 'Guidelines for the Ecologically Sustainable Management of Fisheries - 2nd Edition' and to provide updates on the implementation of recommendations made in the previous Australian Government assessment. The submission will be used to assess the operation of the fishery for the purposes of Part 13A of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act).
Consideration will be given to declaring the PQ Aquatics operation, as managed consistent with the Victorian Fisheries Act 1995, the Victorian Fisheries (General) Regulations 2000, the South Australian Fisheries Act 1982 and the South Australian Fisheries (General) Regulations 2000, as an approved wildlife trade operation under section 303FN of the EPBC Act.
In accordance with the provisions of section 303FR of the EPBC Act, you are invited to comment on this proposal.
