Sunraysia Environmental (established 1991) is a land, water and environmental consultancy operating across Vic, NSW, SA, NT and Qld. We are often involved with Indigenous groups in both consultative and service provider roles.

Through attendance at various presentations and workshops, we have kept abreast of developments in the Carbon Farming Initiative since its instigation and on that basis we provide advice to a number of our farming clients on the eligibility and potential for success of their carbon farming project ideas.

In May 2012, as part of a consortium, we were successful in applying for a 3 year project supported by DAFF funding through Round 1 of its Carbon Farming Futures Action Program. This Action on the Ground project is trialling and demonstrating innovative on-farm practices to increase the sequestration of carbon in soil. These practices are centred on the conversion of flood irrigated cropping to dryland cell grazing of native forage, interspersed with protected biodiversity corridors.

It is a critical part of the project that we impart the knowledge gained to anyone with an interest. A number of information field days are planned; the first field day and was held in December 2012 and was attended by in excess of 60 people.

Part of our core business is the development and presentation of training material relating to soil management, irrigation management and natural resources and ecology.

Projects undertaken with Indigenous groups that verify our credentials in advice and training include:
