Services and experience

Services provided:

I have worked in the field of conservation and land management for five years in a number of capacities, most significantly as Field Manager with Biotropica. On top of my primary role of supervising the team of field workers, I was responsible for all orders pertaining to our work in the field such as plants for our planting areas, chemicals for weed management and equipment. I also liaised and negotiated with clients and stakeholders and provided quotes for our services.

In 2011 I was asked to visit the Ok Tedi mine in Papua New Guinea to assist in establishing a nursery. Here I worked to train nominated staff about managing both weeds and planting areas as well as the nursery.

More recently I have been working as a trainer within remote Indigenous communities within Far North Queensland and the Northern Territory, assisting community members to gain nationally recognised vocational qualifications in various areas including Conservation and Land Management and Horticulture. I have also worked with local organisations within one of these communities to develop appropriate infrastructure that recognises the challenges specific to the area. By developing this infrastructure with the community, they have the skills to maintain the equipment, and the nursery is therefore a sustainable project.

I am currently working within a small community in the Northern Territory, assisting in the creation of a nursery that over time will provide food, propagate native flora and create business opportunity for those who work to maintain it.

I believe that both my skills and experience make me a candidate more than capable of providing training as part of the Indigenous Carbon Farming Fund.
