Canopy is a specialist provider of Indigenous carbon farming training and initiatives. Canopy's programs for state and federal governments have opened up opportunities for communities to create employment and to enter the carbon market.

  1. In 2013 the communities of Point Pearce, Yalata and Nepabunna with support from Canopy obtained grants under the Capacity Building and Business Support stream of the ICFF. Having designed and legally registered ten carbon sinks in conjunction with the SA government, SA Water and large corporations, Canopy is well placed to assist the communities.
  2. In 2012 Canopy devised and delivered "Fixing Our Country", a 3 day program on the CFI for Indigenous communities funded by the Department of Climate Change. The program was presented with the support of Greening Australia to 90 people in communities at Port Germein, Whyalla, Ceduna, Murray Bridge, Raukkan, Point Pearce, Umuwa and Mannum.
  3. Canopy, supported by Greening Australia, is currently delivering a training program on carbon sink design, seed gathering, planting and carbon accounting to the Narrungar people on Yorke Peninsula. The program will also cover skills transfer in relation to governance and contractual arrangements including negotiation with the Aboriginal Lands Trust and the creation and distribution of carbon rights.
  4. The South Australian Arid Lands Natural Resources Management Board contracted Canopy in 2012 to deliver, inter alia, five training sessions from 2012-13 to Indigenous communities in the region. The contract was completed in April 2013.
