Captive breeding programs

In order to export Australian native animal specimens and/or CITES listed specimens overseas for commercial purposes, the specimens must come from an approved program such as an approved captive breeding program. Export permits may then be obtained from the Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts.

The captive breeding programs that are currently approved under the EPBC Act are listed below. Captive breeding programs do not have an expiry date but are generally reviewed after 5 years to establish whether the programs are still operational and continue to meet the requirements of the EPBC Act.
