Comments invited
CSIRO Entomology has prepared a draft environment assessment report under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 to include O. vacca (a scarabaeine dungbeetle) on the live import list for release into the Australian environment to enhance cattle dung burial, and thus limit reproduction of the Australian Bush Fly (Musca vetustissima).
The report has been prepared against the terms of reference for biological control agents and assesses the suitability of O. vacca for import into Australia.
Comments are invited on the draft report. It is available for public comment for 40 business days, closing on 6 November 2009. All comments received will be provided to the applicant to address in finalising the assessment report. Any relevant information provided will be considered by the Department prior to briefing the minister.
