Summary

You are invited to comment on the draft recovery plan for blue whales, titled 'Conservation Management Plan for the Blue Whale' in accordance with the provisions of section 275 of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999.

A review of the existing recovery plan for blue whales was undertaken in 2010. The review recommended that a recovery plan was still required for the species and that the plan should be updated.

The release of this draft recovery plan marks the beginning of a public comment period that will close on Friday, 19 April 2013.

At the end of this period the plan will be revised, taking into consideration any comments received. The Minister for Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities will consider the revised plan as well as the comments received when deciding on adoption of the plan.
