The Committee reported to the Australian and New Zealand Environment and Conservation Council (ANZECC) on research needed to underpin biodiversity conservation activity. ANZECC agreed to the public release of the report. The report was published in June 2001 as Biodiversity Conservation Research: Australia's Priorities. It can be obtained from the Community Information Unit of the Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts.

The Committee provided advice to the Minister ways to promote biodiversity conservation to local government. Previous work has included the biodiversity conservation "toolkit" which is designed to provide practical support for local councils to implement the National Local Government Biodiversity Strategy. The Committee will contribute a range of biological diversity questions to assess the effectiveness of the toolkit in the 2004-05 local government survey.
