Cross-cutting issue 11: Impact assessment

Impact assessment promotes sustainable development by ensuring that projects and policies are economically viable, socially equitable and environmentally sustainable. Environmental impact and assessment procedures in Australia, are carried out under the EPBC Act. The Act specifically relates to matters of national environmental significance, such as those properties on the World Heritage list. State and territory governments complement national procedures and legislation with their own systems and procedures.
