Phylum LORICIFERA Kristensen, 1983

Loriciferans

  • Loricifera Kristensen, R.M. 1983. Loricifera, a new phylum with Aschelminthes characters from the Meiobenthos. Zeitschrift für Zoologische Systematik und Evolutionsforschung 21: 163-180 [166].

Introduction

Loricifera is a very small phylum of tiny to microscopic, multicellular, marine sediment-dwelling animals, characterised by a protective outer case called a lorica. They appear to be most closely related to Nematomorpha. Only two species, each in a different genus, are recorded from Australian waters.
