About the strategy
The national strategy for managing Australia's phase out of critical uses of methyl bromide was prepared in 2005. The national strategy was prepared in response to Montreal Protocol decisions that request Australia to submit a national management strategy that describes how Australia will continue to progress its phase out of critical uses of methyl bromide.
Since the national strategy was implemented, Australia’s consumption of methyl bromide has been reduced from just over 200 tonnes in 2004 to around 33 tonnes in 2009, with only two critical uses remaining. A progress report updating developments regarding Australia's critical uses of methyl bromide up to May 2011 is available above.
