About the fact sheet

Australia is committed to joining the efforts of our international partners at the World Summit on Sustainable Development to take practical actions towards our shared goals of reducing poverty and achieving sustainable development.

Each year the Australian overseas aid program reaches more than 58 million people living in poverty around the world. The Asia-Pacific is home to the majority of the world's poor. Working in partnership to meet the challenge of poverty reduction in the region, Australia's aid program also responds to humanitarian crises, contributes to development in Africa, South Asia and the Middle East, and has a strong multilateral engagement. In 2002-03, the Australian Government will provide $A1.815 billion budgeted as Official Development Assistance, an increase of $A90 million over the 2001-02 level.
