Cyclone Monica - Kakadu visitor alert
MEDIA RELEASE
24 April 2006
Winds associated with Cyclone Monica are expected to start affecting the northern areas of Kakadu National Park from this evening, Monday 24 April 2006.
Boat ramps on the South Alligator and East Alligator Rivers are closed to boat launching.
All Parks Australia campgrounds north of the Old Jim Jim Road junction with the Kakadu Highway will be closed this afternoon.
Visitor sites throughout the Park are accessible today but access to visitor sites may be restricted on Tuesday 25 and Wednesday 26 April.
Rain associated with the cyclone may cause flooding which could close roads in the park, including the Arnhem Highway.
Arrangements have been made to continue distributing the park’s daily road and access update throughout the next few days.
Bowali Visitor Centre will close this afternoon, but the phone number will be monitored: 08 8938 1120.
