About the Graduate Program
If you join the graduate program you will become part of an organisation which implements policy, programs and legislation on environment, water, heritage and the arts. Some of the areas we work on include: environment protection and conservation of biodiversity, wildlife protection, community and household climate action, cultural affairs, Indigenous arts, natural, built and movable cultural heritage, film and the arts, water resources, greenhouse gas abatement, renewable and energy efficiency, and air and fuel quality.
For our program we are seeking graduates with a diverse range of qualifications and life experiences from all over Australia. You can get an idea of our diverse work-force by checking out the Graduate Alumni pages. Our graduate recruitment staff travel the country attending Careers Fairs in order to talk to interested applicants, and then again to facilitate interviews once the recruitment process is under way. All you really need to know before applying for our program however, is that you qualify for our three prerequisites: You need to be an Australian Citizen, you need to have completed at least one undergraduate degree, and you must be willing to move to Canberra, ACT.
If you are successful in securing a position in our graduate program you will be inducted into a year of professional and personal development focused on developing a group of potential leaders for DEWHA. We offer a comprehensive career development program to help you move from University to the workforce, a competitive salary and the opportunity to develop a broad range of skills and knowledge which will allow you to operate successfully in a range of positions within the department. We anticipate that we will recruit up to 60 graduates for our program yearly, and we strongly encourage you to apply.
