Environmental performance reporting

Information about the Department's environmental performance and contribution to ecologically sustainable development, as required by Section 516A of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act), is published in each year's annual report.

EPBC Act - Section 516A reports

Environmental management policy

Reflecting its role in the sustainable management and conservation of Australia's environment, the Department is committed to minimising its own ecological footprint by pursuing environmental best practice and the prevention of pollution in office management and general operations.

Sustainability reports

Sustainability reports (called triple bottom line reports until 2005-06) look at practical measurable social and environmental outcomes, as well as financial matters. Unlike Section 516A reports, these reports are voluntary.

Triple Bottom Line reports

The Department's triple bottom line reports are a demonstration of our commitment to continuously improve the sustainability of our operations. The reports use widely accepted indicators to measure our environmental, social and economic performance, drawn from:
